Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Walking
From Cochem's Market Square (Marktplatz), follow Schlossstraße uphill. This paved, winding road leads directly to Cochem Castle. The walk takes approximately 15-20 minutes and offers scenic views of the town. Note that the final section is a steep incline. Alternatively, from Endertplatz bus station, walk through the town center along Schlossstraße, following signs for the castle. This route is also uphill and takes about 15-20 minutes.
Public Transport
From Cochem Bahnhof (train station) or Endertplatz (bus station), take bus line 701 (Reichsburg-Shuttle) to the castle. The bus operates between May and the end of October. Purchase tickets (€2.50 per person, each way) directly on the bus. The bus drops you off near the base of the final footpath to the castle entrance, a short, gradual incline. Check the Reichsburg Shuttle page for the timetable.
Taxi/Ride-Share
Taxis are available in Cochem. A taxi from Cochem Bahnhof or Endertplatz to Cochem Castle costs approximately €7-€9 and takes only a few minutes. However, note that taxis cannot drive directly to the castle entrance; you will still need to walk the final short distance uphill from the drop-off point.
Driving
Driving directly to Cochem Castle is not possible. Park in one of the public parking lots in Cochem's town center (e.g., Endertstraße parking garage or Pinnerstraße city parking). Parking fees vary, but expect to pay around €2-€4 per hour. From the parking lot, walk to the castle (15-30 minutes uphill) or take the shuttle bus (May to October).
