Train
If you're starting from central Munich, head to Munich Hauptbahnhof (Main Station). From there, take the S-Bahn line S8 towards Leuchtenbergring or S2 towards Erding. Get off at Freising Station. The journey will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive at Freising Station, exit and walk towards the town center. From the station, head southwest on Bahnhofstraße, which will take you directly into the heart of Freising. Follow the signs directing you to Domberg, where the Freising Cathedral is located. It’s a short 15-minute walk uphill from the town center.
Bus
From Munich, you can also take a regional bus to Freising. Head to the central bus station (ZOB) located next to Munich Hauptbahnhof. Look for bus lines heading to Freising, such as the bus number 635. The bus ride will take around 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the Freising bus station, exit and walk towards the city center. Follow the signs to Domberg, which will take approximately 20 minutes on foot uphill to reach the Freising Cathedral.
Bicycle
For the more adventurous, consider cycling from Munich to Freising. You can rent a bicycle from various rental shops in Munich. Head north along the Isar River, following the bike paths. The route is scenic and will take you through beautiful countryside. The distance is about 35 kilometers and will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Freising, follow the signs to Domberg, which is located on a hill where the Freising Cathedral is situated.
Walking Tour
If you're already in Freising, take a leisurely walking tour of the town. Start at the Freising Station and walk towards the historic town center. Stroll along the charming streets, and enjoy the local shops and cafes. As you approach Domberg, keep an eye out for signage pointing towards the Cathedral. The walk from the town center should take you about 15 minutes, with a gentle incline leading you to the Cathedral.
