Leutasch Gorge Travel Guide

The Leutasch Gorge, also known as Leutaschklamm or Leutascher Geisterklamm (Spirit Gorge), is a breathtaking natural attraction nestled between Mittenwald (Germany) and Leutasch (Austria). Carved over centuries by the relentless Leutascher Ache river, the gorge plunges to depths of up to 75 meters, showcasing dramatic rock formations and cascading waterfalls.Opened to tourists in 2006, the gorge features a network of secure steel walkways and bridges stretching over 970 meters, making it the longest accessible gorge in the Eastern Limestone Alps. The experience is enhanced by the 'Spirit Gorge' theme, incorporating local myths and legends about a demon and goblins guarding the gorge. Along the trails, visitors encounter informational signs detailing the geology, flora, and fauna of the area, as well as interactive elements that bring the legends to life.The Leutasch Gorge offers several hiking options, including the main circular route with its high-lying aluminum bridges, and the Wasserfallsteig (Waterfall Trail) leading to a spectacular 23-meter waterfall. The Wasserfallsteig requires a separate admission fee.Note that the gorge is typically open from May to late October, with closures during the winter months due to hazardous conditions.
