Discover more about Princess Caroline's Battery

Princess Caroline's Battery, situated in Gibraltar's Upper Rock Nature Reserve, offers a compelling glimpse into the territory's military history. Constructed in 1732 and named in honor of Princess Caroline, daughter of King George II, the battery played a role in the defense of Gibraltar. Over the years, the battery has been updated with new armaments, including a 6-inch Mark VII gun installed in 1905. Although decommissioned and its guns removed, the site remains significant. The underground magazine now houses the Military Heritage Centre, which features the Memorial Chamber. Visitors can explore relics from the 18th century to the present, including weapons and shells. The Memorial Chamber pays tribute to the regiments deployed to Gibraltar since the early 18th century. Located at the junction of Willis's Road and Queen's Road, the battery is accessible from the town. It's worth noting that the nearby Princess Anne's Battery is often mistaken for Princess Caroline's Battery.
