The cable car, a brainchild of local entrepreneur John G Gaggero, was built in 1966 by Swiss cable car experts Von Roll Holding. The base station is conveniently located near the southern end of Main Street, next to the Alameda Botanical Gardens.As you ascend 412 meters (1,352 feet), enjoy the audio tour guides describing the historical background of Gibraltar. The journey takes you to the Ape's Den midway up the Rock before continuing to the Top Station. From the terraces at the summit, you'll witness breathtaking views of two continents, three countries, and the meeting point of two great bodies of water. Look south across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rif Mountains of North Africa, north towards the Sierra Nevada over the Costa del Sol, and east over the Mediterranean Sea.At the Top Station, explore the complex featuring a restaurant, café, souvenir shop, and toilet facilities. The famous Barbary macaques roam freely, adding to the unique experience. From the top, you can easily access the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, including St. Michael's Cave, the Skywalk, and the Great Siege Tunnels.The cable car operates daily, with varying schedules for summer and winter.
