    From the Grand Parade car park or Casemates Square, walk south along Main Street, then follow Europa Road. Turn onto Engineer Road and continue until you reach the Pillars of Hercules and the entrance to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. The Mediterranean Steps trailhead is located near Jew's Gate. A Nature Reserve ticket is required for entry, costing £19 for adults.

    Public Transport

    Take bus route 2 or 3 from the city center to the Alameda Gardens stop. From there, it's a 10-15 minute walk to the entrance of the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. Follow Europa Road and then Engineer Road to reach the Pillars of Hercules and the Mediterranean Steps trailhead. A single bus ticket costs £1.80, or a day pass is available for £2.50. A Nature Reserve ticket is required for entry, costing £19 for adults.

    Taxi

    Taxis are available from various locations in Gibraltar, including the airport, border crossing, and Casemates Square. A taxi tour to the Upper Rock, including entry to the Nature Reserve, costs approximately £8 per person, plus an additional £8 entrance fee, with a minimum of 4 people. Request to be dropped off at the entrance to the Upper Rock Nature Reserve near the Pillars of Hercules to access the Mediterranean Steps trailhead.

Carved into the Rock of Gibraltar, this path ascends from approximately 180 meters (590 feet) above sea level at Jew's Gate to over 425 meters (1,394 feet) near O'Hara's Battery, close to the summit.Constructed by the British military in the 18th century, the steps served as a vital communication and access route to various defense posts. Today, hikers can explore remnants of these military installations, including World War II fortifications and gun emplacements, along the way. The trail winds along the eastern side of the Rock, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Spanish coastline.The hike is considered moderately challenging, with steep sections and uneven terrain. However, the panoramic vistas and unique flora and fauna make the effort worthwhile. Along the route, hikers can encounter the Goat's Hair Twin Caves, which show evidence of prehistoric human habitation, and pass through a tunnel near a former freshwater pumping station. The steps were restored in 2007, making them safer and more accessible.
