Theotokopoulos Park, nestled in the heart of Heraklion, is a vibrant green oasis offering a serene retreat from the city's hustle and bustle. Named after Crete's famous painter of the Spanish Renaissance, El Greco (Domenikos Theotokopoulos), the park features a bust in his honor.Historically, the site was once home to the Palazzo del capitano generale during the Venetian occupation and later served as a court under Turkish rule and the first Town Hall of the Cretan State. The building was demolished in 1943, and in recent decades, the area has been transformed into the park it is today, complete with lush greenery and a playground.Today, visitors can enjoy the park's shady trees, inviting benches, and a small playground, making it a favorite spot for families, students, and locals alike. Cafes and supermarkets located nearby enhance its appeal as a social hub, offering refreshments and snacks.     Theotokopoulos Park is centrally located and easily accessible by foot from many points in Heraklion. From Eleftherias Square, walk along Theotokopoulou Street, and the park will be on your right at Theotokopoulou 30. From the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, walk south on Xanthoudidou Street, turn left onto 25th August Street, and then continue onto Theotokopoulou Street to find the park.

    Heraklion has an extensive public bus network. Several bus lines operate in the city, and you can reach the park by alighting at a stop near Eleftherias Square and walking a short distance.
