Ali Pasha's Tomb, situated inside the Ioannina Castle (Kastro), stands as a historical testament to Ali Pasha, a significant figure in the Ottoman Empire. Constructed on the southeastern side (Its Kale) of the castle, the tomb reflects the intricate history of Ioannina and the surrounding region.Visitors to the tomb can appreciate its unique architectural design, which includes a wrought iron railing that is a replica of the original. The tomb includes two graves, one belonging to Ali Pasha and the other to one of his wives. After his assassination in 1822 on an island in Lake Pamvotis, only Ali Pasha's body was buried here, while his head was sent to Istanbul. The surrounding area provides stunning views of Lake Pamvotis and the mountains, adding to the contemplative atmosphere.The tomb is located near other historical sites within the castle, such as the Fethiye Mosque and the Byzantine Museum, allowing visitors to explore multiple facets of Ioannina's heritage. The castle itself is the oldest continuously inhabited Byzantine fortress in Greece, with elements dating back to the 6th century.     From the center of Ioannina, walk towards Plateia Eleftherias (main square). Head southwest towards the lakefront and follow signs to the Ioannina Castle (Kastro). Enter the castle and follow the path towards the north side. The tomb is located within the castle grounds.

    Take a bus from the central bus station in Ioannina towards Perama or surrounding areas. Ask the driver to stop near Ioannina Castle. From the bus stop, follow the signs to the castle entrance and walk through the grounds to find Ali Pasha's Tomb. A single bus fare costs approximately €1.20.
