Getting There

  • Ferry

    The primary way to reach Kythnos is by ferry from Athens. Ferries depart from Piraeus and Lavrio ports. The ferry from Lavrio is the quickest, with a journey time of 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Tickets from Lavrio can range from €7.50 to €25. From Piraeus, the journey takes approximately 3 hours and costs between €30.50 and €43. Once in Kythnos (Merichas port), local buses, taxis, and rental cars are available to reach your final destination.

  • Public Transport

    Upon arrival at Merichas port, the most budget-friendly way to reach other villages is by bus. Buses connect Merichas to Chora, Loutra, Dryopida and Kanala. Schedules are limited, especially during off-season. A bus ticket will cost a few euros. Check the schedules at the Info Kiosk outside the port.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available at Merichas port and can take you to any location on the island. A taxi to Chora will cost approximately €15-€20. It's advisable to book in advance, as taxis are limited.
