Walking
From the village center of Monodendri, follow the signs towards the Agios Georgios church and the small stone theater. The trail begins just east of the church, descending steeply into the gorge. This initial descent is challenging due to loose stones and steps. Allow approximately 5-7 hours to hike the full gorge to Vikos village, depending on your pace and stops. Note: This is a one-way hike; arrange for transportation from Vikos village back to Monodendri. A taxi from Vikos to Monodendri typically costs €9-€11.
Taxi
From Ioannina, a taxi to Monodendri, the most common starting point for exploring Vikos Gorge, takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and costs around €40-€50. Taxis are readily available in Ioannina. Alternatively, upon completing the Vikos Gorge hike in Vikos village, a taxi back to Monodendri costs between €9 and €11 and takes about 15 minutes.
