The Peirene Fountain stands as one of the most iconic and historically significant monuments in Ancient Corinth. Its history stretches back to the Neolithic period, with initial water management efforts dating to the Geometric period. By the 2nd century BC, the fountain had evolved into a complex structure featuring six chambers providing access to three deep draw basins, supplied by conduits from four reservoirs.During the Roman period, the fountain underwent significant renovations. A large rectangular court was added, with a facade adorned with Doric half-columns and a second story featuring Ionic half-columns. The central sunken area served as a draw basin, accessed by a broad stair. The fountain's waters were believed to temper Corinthian bronze.
