The Bust of Leonidas Papapavlou stands as a tribute to a significant figure in the history of Serres, Leonidas Papapavlou (1866-1913). Born in Siatista, Papapavlou was a dedicated educator and fervent patriot who served as the principal of the Serres Gymnasium. He was known for his commitment to Greek national ideals and his efforts to inspire patriotism among the youth. Papapavlou's life was tragically cut short during the Second Balkan War when he was captured and murdered by Bulgarian forces on June 29, 1913. His death, along with those of other prominent citizens of Serres, came as a result of the ethnic conflicts that marked the period. The Bulgarians burned the city down as they retreated. The bust is located in a small, unnamed park opposite the Hotel Philippos Xenia, a central location in Serres. The monument serves as a reminder of Papapavlou's contributions to the city and his ultimate sacrifice. The Municipality of Serres dedicated a central road to him in addition to the bust.
