To reach the Aegean Sea and its islands, the primary method is by ferry from mainland Greece. For example, to get to Kea, ferries depart from Lavrio port near Athens. From Athens International Airport, take the bus to Lavrio. The bus ride is approximately 1.5 hours and costs around €4-€6. Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to Lavrio costs approximately €50 and takes about 40 minutes. The ferry from Lavrio to Kea takes about 1 hour. Ferry tickets range from €11.50 to €19 depending on the ferry company and type of vessel. Once in Kea, local buses and taxis are available to reach different parts of the island. Bus schedules are aligned with ferry arrivals.
