    Discover more about Tatarna Bridge

The Tatarna Bridge is a modern road bridge located over the artificial Lake Kremasta in northwestern Greece. Designed by Aristarchos Oikonomou and constructed between 1971 and 1973, it stands as a testament to engineering and artistry. The bridge has three spans, with the largest measuring 196 meters. The bridge is situated on the border of the regional units of Aetolia-Acarnania and Evrytania. The name 'Tatarna' is derived from the nearby Monastery of the Virgin Tatarna, which dates back to 1556 AD. The bridge replaced a 17th-century arched stone bridge that was submerged when the Kremasta Dam was built in the 1960s. The area is known for its natural beauty, offering opportunities for hiking and exploration. Near the old bridge, a historical battle took place between the Greeks and the Turks during the Greek War of Independence in 1821. The bridge is a popular spot for photographers, especially during sunrise and sunset when the light casts a magical glow over the lake and mountains.
