The Carriacou Museum, situated on Paterson Street in Argyle, Hillsborough, offers a captivating journey through the island's rich history and cultural tapestry. Founded in 1976, the museum has been a cornerstone of the community, preserving and celebrating the heritage of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The museum is located in a building of historical significance, the second oldest cotton ginnery in the world, which ceased operations in 1979. The museum's collection includes Amerindian and African artifacts, offering insights into the island's earliest inhabitants and their way of life. Visitors can also explore exhibits that trace the early British and French occupation, as well as the enduring influence of African traditions, such as the Big Drum Nation dance. Displays feature historical documents, furniture, glassware, and pottery from colonial times, providing a glimpse into the island's more recent past. The museum also hosts field trips for students from Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and has welcomed distinguished guests such as the Governor General of Grenada and a delegation from UNESCO. The Carriacou Museum is currently undergoing rebuilding after sustaining damage from Hurricane Beryl in 2024.
