Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. George's

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located in the heart of St. George's, Grenada, is a testament to the island's rich history and architectural beauty. In 1818, the Gothic-style tower, which still stands today, was added. The current cathedral was completed in 1848 and designed in the Gothic Revival style, featuring pointed arch windows and doors, a high ceiling, and large buttresses. Inside, the stained glass windows depict biblical stories, and a beautifully crafted altar serves as the focal point.In 2004, Hurricane Ivan caused severe damage to the cathedral, leading to extensive restoration efforts. The meticulous restoration has returned the cathedral to its former glory, a testament to the dedication and perseverance of the community. Today, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is not only a place of worship but also a cultural landmark that encapsulates the essence of Grenadian life.
