Discover more about River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery

The River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery, nestled in the northeastern parish of St. Patrick, Grenada, offers a captivating journey back in time. Established in 1785, it stands as the oldest functioning water-powered distillery in the Caribbean. This historic estate provides an authentic glimpse into the island's rum-making heritage, using methods that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. The distillery's history dates back even further, with the estate itself being established in 1656. Over the centuries, it has passed through French, English, and Grenadian hands, each leaving their mark on the land. The distillery acquired a new watermill in 1840, which is still in use today.Visitors can witness the entire rum-making process, from the harvesting of sugarcane to the final bottling of the renowned River Antoine Rum. The original waterwheel powers the cane crusher, extracting juice from locally grown, organic sugarcane. The juice is then fermented naturally in open-air vats before being distilled in Vendome pot stills, heated by locally cut hardwood. The estate produces some of the finest and most sought-after rums in the Caribbean, known for their potency and rich flavor. The signature Rivers Royal Grenadian Rum is available in 75% and 69% proof varieties. Be warned, this isn't your average liquor ! Due to its strong local following, very little, if any, is exported from Grenada.A tour of River Antoine is like walking through a living rum museum. It's a unique blend of history, culture, and craftsmanship, making it a highlight for visitors to Grenada.
