Asan Bay Overlook: A Window to Guam's WWII History

Asan Bay Overlook, part of the War in the Pacific National Historical Park, provides a poignant and scenic memorial to the events of World War II on Guam. Completed in 1994, the overlook commemorates the sacrifices made during the Battle of Guam and the Japanese occupation.From this vantage point, visitors can see the beaches where U.S. Marines landed on July 21, 1944, to retake the island from Japanese forces. The overlook includes bronze sculptures by Eugene Daub that depict scenes from the war and occupation, offering a visual representation of the island's history.The Memorial Wall of Names lists the names of 1,880 U.S. servicemen who died on Guam during World War II, as well as 1,170 Guamanians who perished and 14,721 who suffered atrocities during the occupation and battles. The overlook provides a panoramic view of Asan and Piti villages, offering a perspective on the terrain that U.S. forces had to overcome.
