Chamorro Village Night Market: A Taste of Guam
Experience Guam's vibrant culture at the Chamorro Village Night Market, with local food, crafts, and entertainment every Wednesday evening.
The Chamorro Village Night Market is more than just a market; it's a sensory experience that captures the heart of Guam. Held every Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the market transforms Hagåtña into a bustling hub of activity, with the aroma of barbecue filling the air and the sounds of music and laughter echoing through the Spanish-influenced buildings. Visitors can explore a wide array of stalls offering traditional Chamorro dishes like red rice, grilled meats, and seafood, as well as international flavors to satisfy every palate. Local artisans showcase their talents, selling handcrafted goods, jewelry, and souvenirs. Cultural performances, including traditional dances and music, add to the festive atmosphere. The Chamorro Village itself has a rich history. It evolved from the Guam Farmers Market of the 1960s and 70s, becoming the Guam Public Market after Typhoon Pamela in 1976. In 1978, it was established as an entity of the Guam Department of Commerce, later becoming the Chamorro Village. Today, it stands as a testament to the island's resilience and its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. The market's mission is to encourage, promote, and provide a centralized support facility for local entrepreneurs. It's a place where visitors can experience the warmth and hospitality of the Chamorro people, connect with the local community, and take home a piece of Guam's unique culture.
