Discover more about Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park

The Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos Latte Stone Memorial Park, located in the heart of Hagåtña, Guam, is a tribute to the island's rich Chamorro heritage. The park's central feature is a collection of eight latte stones, goblet-shaped megaliths consisting of a pillar (haligi) and a capital (tasa). These stones, moved from their original location in Fena, were used to support ancient Chamorro buildings, possibly canoe houses, food storage, or public spaces, dating back to 900 CE. The park is named in honor of the late Senator Angel Leon Guerrero Santos, a Chamorro activist who dedicated his life to advocating for Chamorro rights, land reclamation, and social justice. He founded Nasion Chamoru in the park on July 21, 1991, which became the center of the Chamorro sovereignty movement. The park serves as a gathering place for cultural events and a place of reflection, embodying the enduring spirit of the Chamorro people. Visitors can explore the park's meticulously maintained gardens, read informative plaques detailing the history and significance of the latte stones, and immerse themselves in the peaceful atmosphere. The park provides a picturesque backdrop for photography and a tranquil escape from the city. The park also includes relics of shelters constructed by forced labor during the Japanese occupation, representing a dark time in Guam's history.
