Discover more about Cooperación Española

Located in a beautifully restored colonial building in Antigua Guatemala, the Cooperación Española, or Spanish Cooperation Center, serves as a vibrant hub for cultural exchange and artistic expression. Once the Colegio de la Compañía de Jesús, founded in 1582, the building has a rich history, serving as an important center for education and culture until the expulsion of the Jesuit order in 1767. The building later suffered damage from earthquakes and was used as a textile factory and market before being restored by the Spanish government in 1992. Today, the Cooperación Española hosts a variety of art, photography, and cultural exhibits, as well as cinema nights, dance shows, and talks. Many of these events are offered free of charge or at a low cost. The center also features a library with a collection of Spanish-language books and resources. A tranquil courtyard with a garden café provides a relaxing space to take a break. The center aims to promote international cooperation through art, education, and cultural preservation. Visitors can explore the art galleries, attend cultural events, or simply relax in the courtyard café. The building itself is an architectural gem, reflecting Antigua's colonial charm. The Cooperación Española is open daily, making it a convenient stop for tourists exploring the city.
