Cerro de la Cruz: Antigua's Iconic Viewpoint

Cerro de la Cruz, or Hill of the Cross, is a prominent landmark near Antigua Guatemala, offering stunning panoramic views of the city and surrounding volcanoes. Originally known as Cerro del Manchen, the hill was renamed after the installation of a large stone cross in 1930. The cross has become an iconic symbol of Antigua, frequently photographed with the majestic Volcán de Agua in the background.The hike to the top is relatively easy, taking around 15 to 20 minutes via a well-maintained stone path and stairs. The trailhead is located at the end of 1a Avenida Norte. Along the way, you'll be shaded by trees and encounter local vendors. The summit provides বিশ্রাম areas to relax and appreciate the scenery.From the top, you can see Antigua's colonial streets, churches, and central plaza. The vista captures the colors and architecture of the city, making it a favorite spot for photographers. While the hike is generally safe, it's advisable to visit during daylight hours and be aware of your surroundings. Alternatively, tuk-tuks or cars can drive up to the top for a small parking fee.
