From the center of San Vicente Pacaya, Bajada el Arenal is accessible by foot. Head in the general direction of Volcán Pacaya; the trail is well-marked and known to locals. The walk to the start of the main Pacaya trail from San Vicente Pacaya takes approximately 15-20 minutes.
Public Transport
From Guatemala City, take a bus to San Vicente Pacaya. Buses leave from Guatemala City and cost approximately Q25-Q30. From San Vicente Pacaya, you can walk to Bajada el Arenal. Alternatively, a tuk-tuk from the town center to the trailhead costs around Q10-Q15.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Guatemala City to Bajada el Arenal will take approximately 45-60 minutes. The estimated cost is Q225-Q275. Be sure to negotiate the price beforehand.
