Getting There

  • Car

    If you're driving from central Quetzaltenango (Xela), head southwest on 12 Avenida towards 6ta Calle. Continue on 12 Avenida until you reach the intersection with 17 Calle. Turn left onto 17 Calle and follow it as it becomes the road leading towards the San Martin Sacatepequez area. After about 12 kilometers, you will reach the turnoff for Santa María. Follow the signs to the trailhead, which is located at approximately 14.7563° N, -91.5534° W. Please note that parking may be limited near the trailhead.

    From the central market in Quetzaltenango, locate the bus terminal for chicken buses heading to San Martín Sacatepequez. Look for buses with 'San Martín' displayed on the front. The fare is usually around 10-15 Quetzales. The ride takes about 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive at San Martín, you may need to take a taxi or walk to the trailhead for Santa María, which is about 6 kilometers away. Taxis can cost around 30-50 Quetzales depending on negotiation.
