Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Jacmel Town Square (Place de la Paix), which is centrally located. From the square, head south toward Rue du Commerce. Follow Rue du Commerce for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Rue des Nattes. Turn left onto Rue des Nattes and continue walking for approximately 1 kilometer. You will pass numerous local shops and cafes along the way. After a 10-15 minute walk, you will reach the main road, Route Nationale #2. Here, you can catch a local tap-tap (shared taxi) heading toward Fort Jacques. Inform the driver you are going to Fort Jacques, and they will drop you off at the closest point.

    Once you are dropped off near Fort Jacques, you may need to walk the remaining distance. The fort is located about 1 kilometer from the nearest drop-off point. Follow the dirt road leading uphill; the path is well-trodden. Be cautious as the road can be uneven. After about a 20-minute walk, you will see the entrance to Fort Jacques on your left. The stunning views of the surrounding hills will make the trek worthwhile.
