Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from any location in Mátra, you can reach Hollókő Castle by following the main roads. Start by locating Route 21, which is the primary road connecting various destinations in Mátra. Head towards the town of Mátraszentimre and then take Route 21 south towards Hollókő. After approximately 30 km, look for signs directing you to Hollókő. Once you arrive in Hollókő, follow the signs to 'Vár parkoló' (Castle Parking). This parking area is located at the base of the hill where the castle is situated. Be prepared for a parking fee, which is usually around 500 HUF (approximately 1.5 EUR).

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, start by taking a train or bus to the nearest larger town, which is Salgótarján. From Salgótarján, you can catch a bus to Hollókő. The bus ride takes about 30-40 minutes. Ensure to check the bus schedule beforehand as services may not be frequent. Upon reaching the Hollókő bus stop, you will have a short walk of about 15 minutes to 'Vár parkoló' (Castle Parking) where you can park your vehicle if you are in a group or catch a taxi if needed. The cost of the bus ticket from Salgótarján to Hollókő is approximately 800 HUF (around 2.5 EUR).

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider taking a taxi from any location in Mátra directly to Hollókő Castle. This option is more expensive, typically ranging from 3000 to 6000 HUF (approximately 8 to 17 EUR) depending on your starting point. The taxi will take you directly to 'Vár parkoló', allowing for easy access to the castle without the need for additional walking.
