Car
If you are traveling by car, start by navigating to the E71 highway. From the Zemplen Mountains, head towards the town of Szerencs, then take the E71 towards Miskolc. Continue on E71 until you reach the junction for M3 towards Budapest. Take the M3 highway, which will lead you directly towards Budapest. As you approach the city, follow the signs for 'Budapest' and then for 'Buda'. Exit at 'Gellért Hill' or 'Citadella', and follow the signs up the hill to reach Citadella. There is parking available near the entrance, but be prepared for potential parking fees.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can take a train from Miskolc to Budapest. Once you arrive at Budapest Keleti Railway Station, transfer to the metro line M2 (the red line) towards Déli Pályaudvar (Southern Railway Station). At Déli Pályaudvar, transfer to bus number 27 or 29 towards 'Gellért Hill'. Get off at the 'Citadella' stop. From there, it is a short walk up the hill to the fortress. Be aware that a ticket for the train and metro will cost around 3,000 HUF (approximately 8-10 USD), and the bus ticket costs an additional 350 HUF (about 1 USD).
Taxi or Ride-Sharing Service
If you prefer a more direct route, consider using a taxi or ride-sharing service like Bolt or Uber. Simply input 'Citadella, Budapest' as your destination. The cost will vary based on your starting point, but from central Budapest, it generally ranges from 2,500 to 4,000 HUF (about 7-11 USD). This option is convenient, especially if you are traveling with luggage or in a group.
