Head south on Road 1 for about 40 kilometers (25 miles) until you reach the junction with Road 96. Turn onto Road 96 towards Breiðdalsvík. Continue on Road 96 for approximately 30 kilometers (18 miles). You will then see signs for Skriðdals- og Breiðdalsvegur. Turn onto Skriðdals- og Breiðdalsvegur and follow it for about 10 kilometers (6 miles) until you reach Heidavatn. Be prepared for gravel roads in some sections, and ensure your vehicle is suitable for these conditions.

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Egilsstaðir to Breiðdalsvík. The bus service is operated by Strætó and typically runs several times a day.
