Continue for about 55 km until you reach the junction with Route 1 again. Turn left onto Route 1 and drive for another 10 km until you see the sign for Route 848 towards Krafla and Leirhnjukur. Follow Route 848 for about 10 km until you arrive at the parking area for Leirhnjukur. Please note that some of Route 848 may be unpaved, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended.
Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, you can take a bus from Akureyri to Mývatn (check the local bus schedule for times). From the bus stop in Mývatn, you will need to arrange for a taxi to take you to Leirhnjukur, as public transport does not run directly to the site.
