From the main road (Route 1), take the turnoff onto Route 261 towards Þórsmörk. This road leads you towards the Fimmvörðuháls Pass. Continue on this road until you reach the parking area for the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail. Once parked, you will need to hike approximately 6 kilometers to reach Þórólfsfell. The trail is well-marked and takes you through stunning landscapes.
Public Transportation
Take a bus from Reykjavík to Þórsmörk, which operates seasonally. Once you arrive at Þórsmörk, you will need to hike approximately 6 kilometers to Þórólfsfell. The hiking trail is well-defined, and though it can be challenging, it offers spectacular views along the way.
Hiking
If you are already in the Fimmvörðuháls Pass area, you can reach Þórólfsfell by following the marked trails. Start from the Fimmvörðuháls hut, and follow the signage that leads up to Þórólfsfell. The hike is about 6 kilometers and will take approximately 2-3 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking gear and bring enough water and snacks for the journey.
