Public Bus
From Keflavik, walk to the nearest bus stop, which is 'Keflavik Airport'. Take the Strætó bus number 55 towards Reykjavik. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the stop 'Hafnarfjörður, Norðurhella'. From there, transfer to bus number 1 towards 'Hafnarfjörður, Stafnes'. After about 10 minutes, get off at 'Hafnarfjörður, Gálgahraun'. From that stop, it is a 15-minute walk to Thríhnúkagígur Volcano. Head southeast on Gálgahraun road, then turn left onto Mývatn road. Continue straight until you reach the entrance of Thríhnúkagígur Volcano.
Walking Tour
If you're already in central Keflavik, you can take a scenic walking tour. Start at the 'Keflavik town center' and walk towards the coast. Follow the coastline along 'Reykjanesbraut', which is a main road. Continue walking for about 5 km until you reach 'Hafnarfjörður'. From there, navigate towards 'Hafnarfjörður, Norðurhella' and find the bus stop to take you closer to the volcano site. This option allows you to enjoy the beautiful coastal views and local attractions along the way.
Taxi
For a more direct route, you can take a taxi from anywhere in Keflavik. Simply request a taxi to take you to 'Thríhnúkagígur Volcano, X8X2+9CM, 206 Hafnarfjörður'. The ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Make sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting the journey.
