Getting There

  • Car

    From Akureyri, head south on Route 1 (the Ring Road) towards Selfoss. After approximately 125 km, take the exit for Route 35 towards Þingvellir National Park. Continue on Route 35 for about 25 km until you reach Route 30. Turn left onto Route 30 and follow it for another 10 km. Turn right onto Route 1 and after about 5 km, turn left onto Route 35 again. Continue on Route 35 until you see the signs for Kerid Crater. The parking lot is located right next to the crater. Note there is an entry fee of approximately 400 ISK per person.

  • Public Transportation

    From Akureyri, take a bus to Selfoss (check the schedule via Strætó). Once you arrive in Selfoss, you will need to transfer to a local bus heading towards Þingvellir. Make sure to check the schedule as connections can vary. After arriving at Þingvellir, you may need to take a taxi or arrange for a shuttle service to reach Kerid Crater, as public transportation to the crater itself is limited. Be aware that the total cost may vary based on bus fares and taxi charges.

  • Rental Car

    If you are in a more remote part of the Northeastern Region, consider renting a car for greater flexibility. Follow similar directions as above from your specific location, utilizing GPS or a maps app to navigate. Renting a car will allow you to stop at other attractions along the way, but remember that you will still need to pay the entrance fee of around 400 ISK upon arrival at Kerid.
