Getting there

Car

If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Akureyri, which is about 90 kilometers away from Lake Viti. Take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading east. After approximately 80 kilometers, take the exit for Route 26 towards Mývatn. Continue on Route 26 for about 10 kilometers, then turn left onto Route 1 (keep an eye out for signs pointing to Lake Mývatn). After a few kilometers, you will see signs for Lake Viti. Turn onto the gravel road that leads to the lake. The road can be rough, so a vehicle with good clearance is recommended. Parking is available near the lake.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Akureyri to Mývatn. Check the schedules for Strætó, the Icelandic bus service, as they run multiple times a day. Once you arrive in Mývatn, you may need to rent a bike or arrange for a taxi to reach Lake Viti, which is about 8 kilometers from the bus stop. Please note, taxi services might be limited, so it's advisable to confirm availability ahead of time.
