Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest major town in the Highlands, such as Akureyri. From Akureyri, take Route 1 (the Ring Road) heading southeast. After approximately 40 km, turn onto Route 35 towards Þingvellir National Park. Continue on Route 35 for about 60 km until you reach the junction with Route 37. Turn left onto Route 37 and follow it for about 20 km. You will then turn onto Route 50, which leads you closer to Reykjafoss. Follow Route 50 for about 30 km, then turn right onto a gravel road that leads directly to Reykjafoss, which is clearly marked. There is no entrance fee to access the waterfall.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, you can take a bus from Akureyri to the nearest stop on Route 35. You may need to check the local bus schedules, as services can be infrequent. Once you reach the bus stop, you will have to arrange for a taxi or a ride-sharing service to take you to the gravel road leading to Reykjafoss, as public transport does not service this remote area directly. The taxi cost may vary, so it is advisable to confirm the fare in advance.
Use Reykjafoss as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
