From Suðureyri, continue on Route 61 until you reach the junction at Þingeyri, then take Route 61 to Bolungarvík. Follow Route 62 to the northern tip of the Westfjords. You will need to park your car in either Bolungarvík or Ísafjörður because Hornstrandir is only accessible by boat or on foot.
Public Transportation
For those opting for public transportation, take a bus from Ísafjörður to Bolungarvík. Buses operate regularly, and you can check the schedule at the local bus station. Once in Bolungarvík, you will need to book a boat tour to Hornstrandir. Note that boat services are seasonal, so it is advisable to check with local operators like Westfjords Adventures or other tour companies for the schedule and book in advance.
Boat
To reach Hornstrandir, you can take a boat from either Ísafjörður or Bolungarvík. The boat ride typically takes around 1.5 hours. The cost of the boat ticket varies by operator, but expect to pay between 7,000 to 10,000 Icelandic Króna (ISK) for a round trip. Make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time, as seating is limited.
Hiking
Once you arrive at Hornstrandir, the area is best explored on foot.
