    The Carlinville Historic District is centered around the town square, easily walkable from most points in downtown Carlinville. From the Amtrak station at 128 Alton Road, head north on Alton Road, then turn right onto West Main Street. Continue east on Main Street to reach the town square and the Macoupin County Courthouse. The walk is approximately 1 mile and should take about 20 minutes. Sidewalks are available throughout the route. No costs are associated with walking.

    If arriving by car from the north or south via Route 66 (North Broad Street/South Broad Street), follow the signs to the town square. From the east or west, use Main Street to access the square.
