This mile-long residential street, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983, features over 50 historic homes dating from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century. St. Louis Street was once the most prestigious area in Edwardsville, attracting the city's elite. The first house, a simple log cabin, was built in 1809 by John Lusk. In the 1870s, prominent residents began constructing homes on the south side of the street, characterized by large plots and open parkland. Judge Joseph Gillespie later divided the land on the north side in 1883, resulting in homes built closer together. The district boasts a variety of architectural styles popular in the late 1800s, with Queen Anne being the most prevalent. Visitors can also admire Italianate, Chateauesque, and Classical Revival houses. One notable example is the Kirkpatrick-Richards House at 603 St. Louis Street, designed by Charles H.
