From the heart of Palatine, head to the nearest bus stop. Take the Pace Bus Route 696 towards Mount Prospect. You will need to transfer at the Arlington Heights Metra Station. From there, take the Metra Train on the Union Pacific Northwest Line towards Chicago. Disembark at the Ogilvie Transportation Center. From the station, walk to the 'Washington & Madison' bus stop and catch the #151 bus towards 'Sheridan & Lawrence'. Get off at 'North Avenue & Lake Shore Drive', and you will find North Avenue Beach just a short walk away.

If you prefer cycling, grab a bike from one of the local rental shops in Palatine. Start by heading south on N Smith Street and then take a left on E Dundee Road. Follow E Dundee Road until you reach the bike path that leads to the Des Plaines River Trail. Follow the trail south until you reach the intersection with W Dempster Street. Continue east until you hit Lake Shore Drive. Turn left and ride north until you reach North Avenue Beach.
