• Walking

  If you are in downtown Springfield, the Old State Capitol State Historic Site is easily accessible by foot. Start at the Old State Capitol Plaza, which is a central point in downtown. Head east on E Monroe St toward S 6th St, then turn left onto S 6th St. Walk for about two blocks until you reach E Adams St. Turn right onto E Adams St, and you will find the Old State Capitol at 526 E Adams St. The site is a short walk from many downtown hotels and attractions.

  From anywhere in Springfield, you can take the local bus service (Check the Sangamon Mass Transit District for routes). If you are near the downtown area, you can catch bus routes that head toward the downtown area. Look for a bus heading towards the downtown transit center or stops near 6th and Adams. Once you arrive at the stop closest to 6th and Adams, it is just a short walk east on Adams Street to reach the Old State Capitol at 526 E Adams St.
