From the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center, follow the sidewalk towards the Illinois River. Continue past the Starved Rock overlook, and follow the signs for French Canyon. The trail is approximately 0.8 miles round trip and rated as easy to moderate, with some staircases. There are maps and trail markers posted along the trail. Parking is free.
Driving

From Interstate 80, take exit 81 (Route 178) south towards Utica. Proceed through Utica, crossing the Illinois River bridge. Turn left into Starved Rock State Park. Follow the signs to the Visitor Center parking lot. Parking is free. From the parking lot, follow the walking directions to the canyon. Note that during peak times, parking may be limited.
