Takht-E-Jahangir, or the Throne of Jahangir, is a captivating historical landmark situated within the Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This impressive platform, made of black touchstone, also known as Kasauti patthar, was commissioned by Mughal Emperor Jahangir in 1602. It served as a royal seat where the emperor would conduct court proceedings and make important decisions. Crafted from a single rock, the monolithic throne is a symbol of Mughal artistry. The throne is 10 feet 7 inches long, 9 feet 10 inches broad and 6 inches thick. Its octagonal pedestals are each 1 foot 4 inches in height. Persian inscriptions, dating back to 1602, adorn its sides, praising Jahangir as Shah and Sultan. These inscriptions were a bold declaration of Jahangir's authority, even during his father Akbar's reign. Originally located in Allahabad Fort, the throne was later moved to Agra Fort by Jahangir. Legend has it that the throne has remained in the same spot since Jahangir's time. A crack in the throne is attributed to Jawahar Singh, a Jat usurper. Today, Takht-E-Jahangir stands as a major attraction for tourists visiting the Agra Fort, offering a glimpse into the opulence and power of the Mughal Empire.
