The Punjab State War Heroes' Memorial & Museum, located on the outskirts of Amritsar, stands as a solemn tribute to the brave soldiers of Punjab. Inaugurated in October 2016, the museum was built at a cost of Rs 130 crore and serves as a repository of history, preserving the memory of Punjab's sons and daughters who fought valiantly in defense of their homeland. The museum is located on the Amritsar-Attari Road, approximately 18 km from the international border with Pakistan. Its proximity to the Wagah Border makes it a popular tourist destination. The central edifice of the museum is a 45-meter high stainless steel sword, symbolizing the strength and courage of the Punjabi people. The names of nearly 3,500 martyrs are inscribed on the memorial. The museum houses nine state-of-the-art galleries that showcase Punjab's martial tradition and military campaigns from the era of Sri Guru Hargobind Singh Ji through the rise of the Sikh Empire, the Anglo-Sikh wars, and post-independence conflicts up to Operation Parakram in 2002. Exhibits include photographs, illustrations, paintings, artifacts, weapons, and interactive panels. Visitors can also see a retired MiG-23 aircraft, a model of the decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, and three tanks that played significant roles in past wars. A 7D auditorium offers an immersive experience of different war zones. The museum is more than just a tourist attraction; it serves as a source of inspiration for young people and a reminder of the price paid for freedom. It is a place to honor the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers who have defended the nation.
