Discover more about Auli Hill Station

Auli, also known as Auli Bugyal (meadow), is a picturesque hill station in Uttarakhand, India, celebrated for its ski resorts and stunning natural vistas. Situated at an altitude ranging from 2,500 to 3,050 meters, this Himalayan destination offers panoramic views of snow-capped peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet, and Dunagiri. Auli's history is intertwined with the semi-nomadic Bhotiya tribes who once used the area as a trade route with Tibet. In the 8th century AD, Guru Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited, and the temple he built at Joshimath still stands. Recognizing its potential for winter sports, Auli was developed as a training ground for the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) before becoming a popular skiing destination in the 1980s. Today, Auli attracts visitors year-round. During winter (December to February), it transforms into a snowy wonderland, perfect for skiing and snowboarding. Auli boasts Asia's second-highest and longest ropeway (after Gulmarg), connecting it to Joshimath and offering breathtaking views. The Auli Artificial Lake, one of the world's highest man-made lakes, ensures consistent snow conditions for skiing. In the summer (March to June), the snow melts, revealing lush green meadows ideal for trekking and enjoying the pleasant weather. Popular treks include Auli-Gorson and Kuari Pass. Auli is committed to eco-friendly practices, minimizing human impact on its pristine environment. With its blend of natural beauty, adventure activities, and tranquil atmosphere, Auli offers an unforgettable experience for every traveler.
