The Odisha State Tribal Museum, established in 1953 and formerly known as the Museum of Tribal Arts & Artifacts, stands as a tribute to the diverse tribal communities of Odisha. Often called the 'Tribal Museum' or the 'Museum of Man', it provides an immersive experience into the lives and cultures of over 60 tribal groups within the state. The museum complex comprises five main galleries, each dedicated to different aspects of tribal life, showcasing over 2,247 artifacts. Visitors can explore traditional costumes, ornaments, musical instruments, hunting tools, agricultural implements, and household objects. Replicas of tribal dwellings, including those of the Santal, Juang, Gadaba, Saora, and Kondh tribes, offer a glimpse into their architectural styles and living environments. A special PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) Gallery highlights the unique cultures and livelihoods of Odisha's 13 PVTG communities through interactive kiosks and dioramas. The museum also features tribal shrine crafts, an herbal garden, and facilities for screening films on tribal life and culture. The museum conducts workshops and training programs for the preservation of tribal culture. Located in the capital city of Bhubaneswar, the museum is easily accessible and provides free parking. It is maintained by the Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes Research and Training Institute (SCSTRTI), a wing of the Government of Odisha. The museum remains closed on Mondays and State Government holidays.
