Ajni Clock Tower: A Nagpur Landmark

The Ajni Clock Tower is more than just a time-telling device; it's a symbol of Nagpur's identity. Located in the Dhantoli area, the tower's design incorporates intricate details that capture the essence of the city's past. The area surrounding the tower is vibrant, with local shops, cafes, and vendors offering a taste of Nagpur's culture. The tower stands 21 meters tall and features a stainless steel, parabolic shape. The clock itself is a satellite-based prism clock that receives GPS signals to maintain accuracy. The Ajni Square, where the clock tower is located, also features a Mark Sherman 5 Tank, a war memorial from the 1965 war between India and Pakistan. In 2003, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) initiated the clock tower project to commemorate the city's tercentenary. However, the project faced delays and was only completed in May 2011. After being non-functional for several years, the clock was repaired in July 2022 and has been ticking since then. The tower is particularly enchanting in the evening when it is lit up, creating a captivating atmosphere.
