Dhuandhar Waterfall: A Misty Marvel

Dhuandhar Falls, aptly named for the smoky mist it generates, is a breathtaking waterfall on the Narmada River in Bhedaghat, Jabalpur. The river narrows as it flows through the famed Marble Rocks, plunging 30 meters (98 feet) to create a stunning cascade. The force of the water hitting the rocks below produces a mist that rises like smoke, filling the air with a cool spray and a thunderous roar audible from a distance. The falls have a strong connection to the Narmada River, considered one of India's holiest rivers. Local legend says the goddess Narmada descended from heaven at this site. The falls and the surrounding Marble Rocks have been a popular tourist destination for many years, with tourism infrastructure developing in the 20th century. Viewing platforms provide safe vantage points, and a cable car offers aerial views. Visitors can take a boat ride along the Narmada River to experience the Marble Rocks and get a unique perspective of the falls. The best time to visit Dhuandhar Falls is from September to March, when the weather is pleasant and the water flow is ideal. During the monsoon season (July-September), the falls are at their most powerful, but boating may be closed. The Narmada Mahotsava festival, celebrated during Sharad Purnima (September-October), is a particularly special time to visit, as the moonlight illuminates the marble rocks.
