Bhangarh Fort, situated on the edge of the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan, is a captivating historical site shrouded in mystery and legend. The fort complex once thrived with over 9,000 houses and bustling marketplaces, but now lies in ruins, adding to its haunted allure. The fort is enclosed by three successive fortifications and five massive gates, leading to temples, palaces, and havelis. Among the notable structures are the Gopinath Temple, built on a raised platform with intricate carvings, and temples dedicated to Hanuman, Mangla Devi, and Keshava Rai. Despite its ruined state, Bhangarh Fort attracts many tourists drawn to its serene atmosphere, picturesque Aravalli Mountains backdrop, and architectural marvel. The fort's haunted reputation stems from local legends. One story tells of Baba Balau Nath, an ascetic whose meditation spot was disturbed by the fort's construction. The king agreed that the fort's shadow should never fall upon his home, but a successor ignored this warning, leading to the town's destruction. Another legend involves Princess Ratnavati, whose beauty attracted a sorcerer who attempted to use a love potion. When she foiled his plan, the sorcerer cursed the city, resulting in its downfall. Due to these legends, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) prohibits entry before sunrise and after sunset.
