4.4

Hundru Waterfall is a major tourist attraction in Jharkhand, India, formed by the Subarnarekha River falling from a height of 98 meters (322 feet). The falls are located 45 km from Ranchi, amidst lush green forests and unique rock formations. The powerful cascade creates a misty ambience and collects in a frothy pool at the base, offering a refreshing experience for visitors. The waterfall's formation is attributed to volcanic activity millions of years ago, with the basaltic rocks adding to its unique charm. Over time, the constant erosion by the falling water has sculpted the rocks into various shapes, enhancing the area's beauty. Hundru Falls is not only a scenic spot but also a popular destination for picnics, trekking, and photography. Adventure enthusiasts can trek down the 750+ steps to reach the base of the falls and experience the raw power of nature. Historically, the falls have been a significant part of the local culture and a source of livelihood for the communities. The name 'Hundru' is derived from the local word 'hundur,' meaning 'fall'. According to local legend, the site is also associated with Sita, the wife of Lord Rama, who is believed to have cut her hair at the top of the waterfall during their exile.
