Discover more about Lamahatta Eco Park

Lamahatta Eco Park, located 23km from Darjeeling, is a testament to sustainable eco-tourism in the Himalayas. The park was established in 2012 after the Chief Minister of West Bengal recognized the area's potential for tourism, blending natural beauty with community development. The name 'Lamahatta' signifies 'a monk's hermitage,' reflecting the area's tranquil atmosphere. The park itself is divided into two distinct sections. On one side of the road, you'll find homestays, shops, and restaurants, creating a lively village atmosphere. On the other side, the Eco Park unfolds across a sloping hill, featuring manicured gardens, walking trails, and panoramic views. The lower part of the park showcases decorative flower plants, while the upper section transitions into a natural pine forest. A stone-built hiking path leads through the pine forest to a sacred lake (Jore Pokhari) at the summit, about 1 km uphill. The trek is moderately challenging, with benches along the way for rest. The park also features wooden and bamboo gazebos, offering spots to relax and soak in the scenery. From various vantage points, including a wooden watchtower ('Machan'), visitors can enjoy views of the Kanchenjunga range, Sikkim hills, and the Rangeet River. Lamahatta Eco Park is not just a visual treat but also a place for activities like bird watching, photography, and trekking. The nearby 500-year-old Lamahatta Monastery, located a short 20-minute walk from the park, offers a glimpse into the region's cultural heritage.
