Lambasingi: The Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh

Lambasingi, also known as Lammasingi or Korra Bayalu, is a picturesque village situated in the Chintapalli Mandal of Andhra Pradesh's Alluri Sitharama Raju district. Perched at an altitude of 1000 meters (3280 feet) above sea level in the Eastern Ghats, Lambasingi stands out with its cooler climate compared to the surrounding plains. The name Korra Bayalu translates to 'if someone stays outside the house in the open they will freeze like a stick'. The area is characterized by moist deciduous forests and is dotted with coffee, pine, and eucalyptus plantations. Historically, the region was densely forested and supported tigers. Today, it's known for its diverse birdlife, attracting ornithologists and nature enthusiasts. Key attractions include the Lambasingi Viewpoint, offering panoramic vistas, and the serene Thajangi Reservoir. Visitors can also explore Kothapalli Waterfalls, Susan Garden, and the ancient Buddhist site of Bojjannakonda. Adventure seekers can indulge in trekking, hiking, and camping. Lambasingi's history is intertwined with local tribal communities and the British colonial era. The British developed it as a summer retreat and introduced coffee plantations. While accommodation options in Lambasingi are limited, with primarily budget guesthouses and homestays, the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is developing the area as an ecotourism destination. The best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is pleasant.
